Russian engineering equipment: how we select it

How to choose Russian equipment for ventilation, power supply, fire safety and access control: certification, compatibility, service and lead times.

Russian engineering equipment has noticeably strengthened its position in recent years: manufacturers have expanded their product ranges and production. Today, most of a building's engineering systems can be built on domestic equipment: ventilation, power supply, fire safety and access control. But choosing a manufacturer is about more than the price in the specification. Here is what we look at when we select equipment for a project.

Criteria for choosing Russian equipment

Compliance. Equipment must carry documents confirming conformity with the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union: TR EAEU 043/2017 for fire safety and fire-fighting equipment, TR CU 004/2011 and TR CU 020/2011 on electromagnetic compatibility for low-voltage electrical equipment, and, among others, TR CU 010/2011 on the safety of machinery and equipment for ventilation units. Without these documents, a system will not pass acceptance.

Compatibility and integration. A building works as one system. The fire alarm must shut down ventilation and control smoke extraction and voice evacuation, access control must release the doors on escape routes when the alarm goes off, and all equipment must report to the building management system over open protocols such as Modbus or BACnet.

Service and spare parts. It matters whether the manufacturer has a service network, a spare parts stock and clear warranty terms. For the operation of the building, this is often more important than a difference in price.

Lead times. The installation schedule is built around deliveries, so we plan with real production and logistics times, not just the ones in the catalogue.

Cost of ownership. Energy-efficient fans, heat recovery and properly sized cables pay for themselves over the years of operation.

Design support. BIM libraries, technical data sheets and selection software speed up design and reduce errors.

The manufacturers we work with

Ventilation and air conditioning. VEZA, Arktos, Lissant, Breezart and Rowen: air handling units, fans, air terminals and duct equipment. Where the task requires it, for example in large chilled water systems, we combine them with equipment from global brands.

Power supply and switchgear. Systeme Electric, IEK, EKF, KEAZ and DKC: distribution equipment, modular devices, circuit breakers, enclosures and cabinets, cable management systems. Cables include those made by Sevkabel.

Fire safety. Bolid and Rubezh for addressable fire alarm and fire automation, Argus-Spectrum for wireless systems, Epotos for fire suppression and Spetsavtomatika for water-based fire protection equipment.

Access control. PERCo, Sigur and Parsec: turnstiles, controllers and access control software integrated into the building's security system.

Russian or imported?

We do not divide equipment by origin. For each system, we choose the solution that meets the requirements, works reliably with the other systems and is backed by service for the whole life of the building. In practice, a project often combines Russian and imported equipment. What matters is that the building works as one whole, and that is verified during integrated testing.

Frequently asked questions

Can a building's engineering systems be built entirely on Russian equipment?

For most systems, yes: ventilation, power supply, fire alarm and fire suppression, and access control all have domestic solutions. For some tasks, such as large chilled water systems, the decision is made in the design, taking into account the client's requirements, lead times and service.

What documents does fire safety equipment need?

A certificate of conformity with TR EAEU 043/2017 on requirements for fire safety and fire-fighting equipment, plus the manufacturer's documentation: data sheet, operating manual and installation instructions.

How do you combine equipment from different manufacturers in one system?

Integration is designed in from the start: we choose equipment with open communication protocols such as Modbus or BACnet, or with standard interface modules, and verify the interaction of systems during integrated testing.

How can lead times be shortened?

Order long-lead equipment right after the design is approved, work directly with manufacturers and build delivery times into the overall installation schedule.

Sobko Group works directly with leading Russian and global manufacturers and takes care of supply and logistics: we select equipment for the task, deliver it to site, install it and commission it. How supply fits into full-cycle delivery is explained in our article on turnkey MEP systems. To select equipment for your project, send us a request.
